“PEAK DAY, 2018” This Sunday, April 29, 2018

Enjoy the day! Adventure, Refresh and Play

The San Benito County Board of Supervisors and the City of San Juan Bautista proclaim April 29, 2018 as Fremont Peak Day in the County of San Benito, California.

Fremont Peak Day will be held for the 112thyear, on Sunday, April 29, from about 11am till mid afternoon to celebrate the first raising of the American Flag on California’s soil by John C. Fremont in March, 1846.  This annual event is sponsored by VFW District 12, and the Native Daughters of the Golden West.   The VFW barbeques hamburgers and hot dogs “as soon as the fire’s hot, and until the food is gone.” The Flag is raised at the top of the Peak at noon by all Scouts present, with the Park Ranger.

VFW District 12 performs the ceremony in salute to our Nation’s Flag, also honoring Loyalty Day.  Introductions are made, ‘speeches are spoke’, and then the games begin.  All children are invited to join in old fashioned outdoor games like, Water Balloon Toss, Spoon ’n Egg Relays, and Coin Scrambles.   Prizes will be awarded.

This is a free event, open to the public, for the promotion of community spirit and patriotism.  Come hike to the Peak, join our picnic or bring your own, and play a game outdoors!  Special needs? Call 831-601-5154.
